The LSI VetMAX™ BVDV 4ALL Detection Kit is a real-time RT-PCR kit designed for reliable and fast detection of bovine virus diarrhea (BVD) virus (types 1, 2, and 3) and Border Disease (BD) virus (types 1–6) extracted from serum/blood, ear notch, or milk samples in acute or persistently infected ruminants (cattle, sheep, goats, and wild ruminants). The kit is not intended for discriminating viral subtypes.

The LSI VetMAX™ BVDV 4ALL kit includes specific primers and probes that target the 5’UTR region of the gene. The assay is a single-tube, real-time, RT-PCR assay in which RNA extraction and RT-PCR analysis are validated with an endogenous internal positive control (IPC). The IPC is used to check the RNA purification efficiency and absence of inhibitors in the test sample. An external positive control (EPC) is also included, which aids in the amplification and detection of BVDV targets in real time.

Features of the kit include:
• For serum/blood and ear notch samples (milk data also available)
• Validated for single and pooled samples (<100 samples)
• Fast Lysis protocol for ear notch samples (<25 samples)
• FLI registered
• Highly sensitive and specific
• Amplification results within 2 hours
• Proven repeatability and reproducibility in different studies

Bovine Viral Diarrhea virus (BVDV) is a pestivirus of the Flaviviridae family, and is very closely linked to the classical swine fever and Border Disease viruses. There are 2 different genotypes of BVDV from the antigenic point of view (type 1 and type 2), with differences identified via genetic analysis. A new genotype, BVDV3, was identified in 2011. There are cytopathogenic and non-cytopathogenic forms (biotypes). Each biotype has a specific role in many clinical syndromes and acute, congenital, and chronic infections. Direct and indirect transmission can occur via droplet infection from saliva, milk, semen, feces, etc., and can cause diarrhea and pneumonia as well as reproductive losses in infected pregnant animals. Virus-shedding is at most in a persistent infected animal (PI-animal).
