NativePAGE™ 5% G-250 Sample Additive is added to samples prepared with the NativePAGE™ Sample Buffer and detergents (10% DMM or 5% Digitonin) just prior to applying the samples to NativePAGE™ gels. This Additive is also included in the NativePAGE™ Sample Prep Kit. The samples prepared with 10% DDM, 5% Digitonin, or the NativePAGE™ Sample Prep Kit are compatible with NativePAGE™ Novex Bis-Tris Gels for native electrophoresis showing increased resolution and reduced streaking.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
I would like to run a NativePAGE gel. Which of your protein standards should I use?
We recommend using the NativeMark Unstained Protein Standard, Cat. No. LC0725 for native gel electrophoresis with Tris-Glycine, NuPAGE Tris-Acetate or NativePAGE gels.
Can I use the NativePAGE Sample and Running buffers with NuPAGE Bis-Tris gels?
We do not recommend using NativePAGE Sample and Running buffers with NuPAGE Bis-Tris gels. NuPAGE Invitrogen Bis-Tris gels are optimized for denaturing conditions and have an extremely low operating pH (pH 7.0), which makes it difficult for most proteins to migrate through them in a native state.
Can I use the NativePAGE Sample and Running buffers with Invitrogen Tris-Glycine gels or NuPAGE Tris-Acetate gels for native applications?
NativePAGE Sample Buffers and Running buffers were developed specifically for use with the NativePAGE Bis-Tris gels. We do not recommend using these buffers for native applications with any other gels, including NuPAGE Tris-Acetate or Invitrogen Tris-Glycine gels. For those gels, we recommend using the Invitrogen Tris-Glycine Native Sample and running buffers.
What is the purpose of using the NativePAGE 5% G-250 Sample Additive?
The NativePAGE 5% G-250 Sample Additive is a concentrated stock solution of Coomassie G-250 designed for use with detergent (non-ionic) containing samples prepared for NativePAGE gel electrophoresis. Native proteins normally migrate on the gel according to natural charge/pI in the pH of gel buffer, but adding the Coomassie G-250 renders an associated negative charge even to high pI proteins that would normally have a positive charge. It binds to proteins non-specifically without denaturing them. The NativePAGE 5% G-250 Sample Additive is added to the cathode buffer and, optionally, to samples as well.
What is the composition of the NativePAGE 5% G-250 Sample Additive? Does it contain a detergent?
The NativePAGE 5% G-250 Sample Additive (Cat. No. BN2004) is a concentrated stock solution of Coomassie G-250 designed for use with detergent (non-ionic) containing samples prepared for NativePAGE gel electrophoresis. The exact composition of the NativePAGE 5% G-250 Sample Additive is proprietary. It does not contain a detergent.
