Transformative genome editing technologies, such as the CRISPR-Cas9 system, enable researchers to study, alter, create, and re-create highly complex pathways, DNA sequences, genes, and natural biological systems. Our latest genome editing tools allow you to build organ- and disease-specific models to drive understanding of how individual genes and mutations influence disease development and progression.

Advance your discoveries with fast, accurate results enabled by innovative products across the gene editing workflow.

The three steps of the genome editing workflow demonstrated with gray icons

Building efficient and precise gene editing experiments

Our early understanding of how bacteria use CRISPR to target bacteriophage came from the cheese and yogurt industry. Scientists studying different strains of the dairy-culturing bacterium Streptococcus thermophilus in the early 2000s demonstrated that bacteria use CRISPR and the related enzyme Cas9 to build adaptive immunity by cutting up segments of the invading viruses’ DNA and incorporating them into their own genomes. They went on to adapt CRISPR to easily distinguish and tag different strains of bacteria, kill particular strains within a mix of bacteria and inoculate bacteria against specific pathogens, all of which has had a tremendous impact on industry.
