Specificity: Reacts with residues 627-637 [CPECRTLGLQG] of the 71 kDa HEV capsid protein.
Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a leading cause of acute viral hepatitis, mainly transmitted via the fecal-oral route, often through contaminated water. HEV is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the Hepeviridae family. Human HEV infections are primarily caused by genotypes 1 and 2, which are restricted to humans, while genotypes 3 and 4 are zoonotic and also infect various animals such as pigs and deer. HEV is known for its broad host range and potential to cause epidemics, leading to significant morbidity and mortality, especially in pregnant women. Recent studies have highlighted the extrahepatic manifestations of HEV, including neurological, renal, and hematological complications. HEV infections often result in self-limited acute hepatitis; however, chronic HEV infections can occur in immunocompromised individuals.
